There's something about a pair of sneakers that just screams "art." Maybe it's the clean lines and simple shapes, or the blank canvas that they provide. Whatever the reason, sneakers have become a popular canvas for artists of all kinds. And while some people might consider abstract art to be a little too out there, I think it's the perfect way to show off your personality - and taste in art.
I can't imagine a better way to make a contemporary statement with abstract art. I create abstract paintings in my studio for just this purpose. To walk on them. The colorful sneakers at the ends of my legs make me smile. It's sparked more than a few fascinating conversations with interesting people.
You can get insight from just about anything if you try. A door knob can keep someone transfixed if they focus on it, or they've overdone the medical marijuana. But that's all work. Abstract art makes it easy. Whether you like a piece or not, as soon as you see it, you're engaged, thinking, assessing. A painting on your wall may be beautiful or inspire you when you need it. But where is that painting when you need it, say, at the grocery store?
Wearing your art brings your inspiration and playfulness with you. It's always on tap. It also has the added benefit of inspiring others who would have never otherwise seen the painting you have hanging in your foyer.
Of course, not everyone is going to appreciate your new sneakers with an abstract design. But that's all part of the fun, isn't it?
You can be sure that people will be talking about your shoes, and that's always a good thing. So go ahead and make a statement with your feet. After all, art is meant to be seen - and worn.
